Local residents gather in the lobby of Dyersburg Regional Airport to offer support to Jeremy Maze and his mother, Crystal Maze, as they prepare to travel to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
Maze, a member of the Dyersburg High School Class of 2010 who has captured the heart of the Dyer County community in his courageous battle with nasopharyngeal cancer, participated in a Pilots for Patients flight on Wednesday, Jan. 23.
Many of you are unaware that 1/14/2013 marked the 5 year anniversary of Pilots For Patients first flight. The flight flew from Monroe to Houston with our first patient Linda F with throat and oral cancer who has made remarkable strides and continues to do well since she was not given much of a chance for survival without treatment from M.D. Anderson in Houston. Pilot Wayne Petrus and co-pilot Bradley Jones flew Linda down for her treatment and just a few days later she was flown home by Mike
Blakeney on a day much like yesterday with freezing temps and possibly some freezing precep just south of Monroe. Mike did not encounter any adverse weather and was greeted by a welcoming group at the FBO including Mayor Mayo . We were not quite ready for this mission since just receiving our 501 c (3) non profit certificate on December 18th but details had to be put aside to help this lady in real need. She did not have any money in her bank account and her car would probably not have made it out of Monroe much less to Houston.
To date 1/14/2013 we have flown 1560 missions and continue to grow.
It starts in your community with just one patient in need with someone or a kind pilot taking that first step becoming involved to help your friend or neighbor in their hour of need. So take the first step and become involved in your community. You will find it is very rewarding and exhilarating!
Congratulations to all involved and all that have flown the missions in-between ! MENTOR A PILOT/strong> and bring them to our blessing!
My Best To You All! Philip

Pilots for Patients held the 4th annual Awards Luncheon in Monroe Saturday, October 13 2012.
A special thank you to the patients who took time to speak. I don't think there was a dry eye in the house. Also, thank you to everyone who made this such a wonderful event: CenturyLink, Warehouse No.1 Restaurant, Jan Clay, Hope Anderson, Mike Blakeny, Courtney Sorenson, our board of directors, our staff, volunteers and everyone else who helped make this day a success.
Thank you to everyone who made it. It was wonderful to see you. We missed those who could not make the journey.

Pilots for Patients is a newly chartered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Pilots participating in the program donate their time, fuel and airplanes for the flight and are not reimbursed for these expenses. Patients who are medically stable fly for free to wherever treatment awaits. Pilots for Patients will focus on transporting Louisiana patients. Patients needing specialized care will have access to medical centers such as MD Anderson in Houston, Texas and St. Jude, in Memphis Tenn
Pilots for Patients is expanding our membership to facilitate the growing list of missions. We need volunteer pilots with a minimum of 250 hours experience and preferably IFR capable. If you own or have access to suitable aircraft and meet these qualifications please consider volunteering to fly at least a single mission for us in 2008. By doing so you will 'make a difference' in the quality of someone's life.
